The Department of Art, Art History, and Design (AAHD) at Michigan State University invites applications for the position of assistant professor, tenure system, in Electronic Art and Intermedia. This position is part of the ongoing expansion and advancement of the Electronic Art and Intermedia program and its involvement in interdisciplinary initiatives across the College of Arts and Letters and with the College of Natural Sciences, College of Engineering and Lyman Briggs College. We are interested in artists and scholars who bridge the gap between research and practice, and whose teaching and research encompass one or more of the following areas: Art-science Intermedia; art-technology Intermedia; and hybrid media. This appointment is expected to begin Fall 2015.
The successful candidate should be team-oriented and committed to advancing the electronic art and intermedia program both within and outside of the college. Applicants should have an innovative background commensurate with pioneering Intermedia. Evidence of ability to work at and across the boundaries of disciplines is expected. The ideal candidate will possess an enthusiastic willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and college as well as across the university. We also seek a faculty member who has a strong commitment to teaching in our vibrant Studio Art program, which emphasizes a diversity of conceptual and technical practices leading to the BA, BFA, and MFA degrees. Other expectations include an active research agenda leading to exhibitions, publications, and/or commissions and grants as well as contributions to outreach and engagement. The ideal candidate will also bring to MSU a program of current and future research that can be expected to attract graduate students of the highest caliber.
Applicants should hold an MFA or equivalent terminal degree and should be professionally active as evidenced by exhibitions, publications, and/or commissions and grants. Salary is competitive and commensurate with background and experience.
AAHD offers undergraduate degree programs in Studio Art, Art History and Visual Culture, Art Education, Apparel and Textile Design, as well as a graduate degree program in Studio Art (including concentrations in Ceramics, Electronic Art and Intermedia, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture). The departments mission is to promote the creation and scholarly research of enduring creative media, the innovative use of the latest technology, and the investigation of the rich intersections between these practices. Serving over 500 majors, the department is home to more than 50 faculty and staff, including 32 tenure system faculty who are committed to active research agendas and creative practice across a range of art and design fields. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
